I have named this post and future ramblings about the draft, "Draft Drivel." Definition of drivel: "to speak childishly or idiotically." So please don't be offended--I am but a childish idiot who knows not of what I speak...
DON'T NEEDS
RP: Going into the draft, there may not be a stronger bullpen in Smokey Louis. Four RPs, who, when healthy, are all quality closers. Wagner and Ryan, both lefties, may be the strongest 1-2 punch out there.
IF: The Chopp Sticks are also deep in the infield. Chopper helped his IF immensely with the offseason trade with the Slumps to acquire D-Lee and lock down 1B.
The DV squad has some real talent--particularly SPs that can immediately come up and contribute such Verlander, Sowers, and Wainright.
NEEDS
OF: No question on this one. Other than Vlady and possibly Figgy, Chopper needs OF help. The Sticks have some young DV talent waiting, but no depth for 2007. While the Lee-Jones trade helped the Sticks at 1B, it created another hole in the OF. If we were starting 1 OF in this league, the Sticks would be set. But you need 3.
SP: The fact that Chopp can call up those young stud SPs is a huge plus; however, you need 5 to start and a couple more for depth when the injuries strike.
PROGNOSTICATION
OF, OF, & yet more OF. My guess is Chopp will be looking to grab 2-3 OFs in the first 3-4 rounds. We're also looking for Chopp to be in the hunt in the early rounds for a SP or two. An early catcher is also a possibility. I predict the Choppster will not take an IF, particularly a 3B, early. Can't wait to find out...
